FinScope SA 2007: Key Financial Habits and Consumer Behaviours
FinScope is a syndicated study that looks at financial perceptions, behaviours and attitudes of consumers in South Africa. The study looks at both informal and formal financial engagement, and seeks to identify areas of potential growth and development within the financial space in South Africa. The study is fully representative of the South African population allowing users of the research to understand fully all the dynamics that make up the financial landscape – from people’s life situation which impacts on their decision making, to reasons why people choose not to engage with financial products, to what sort of information is required by people to make their financial decisions more accurately. The mandate of the commissioning NGO, FinMark Trust, is to help “make financial markets work for the poor”; in this light the FinScope project tries, in part, to help identify changes and longitudinal shifts in attitudes/perceptions and product uptake as well as current realities and needs facing people who are formally included, informally included or excluded from the current financial landscape.
